So, really, the items and upgrades behind the pay wall are usually for a bonus on top of what you already get. The other upgrades are set up in the same way.

For example, you can unlock Sun Boost for an extra 25 sun power by playing the game, but you can purchase the Sun Bonus upgrade for an additional 25 sun power. Upgrades like the Power Moves I talked about above are mostly unlockable by playing as well. None of them is required to finish the game, but some plants and upgrades are enticing enough that I think people will buy some of them anyway. As you swipe through the in-game almanac, you'll notice that a couple of the locked plants are for purchase only, while most are unlockable by finding the right location on the map.

Zombies 2 will be a free game in the App Store, and PopCap says you can complete the entire game without spending a penny, but about 5 percent of the content is hidden behind in-app purchases. Toward the end of every level, it can get really chaotic. These new powers are great for difficult levels, but you'll only be able to use them once in a while or you'll run out of cash. The Power Zap lets you hold your finger down on zombies to electrocute multiple enemies. The Power Toss lets you launch a group of zombies in the air with a swipe, then fling them off the screen. The Power Pinch lets you pinch to decapitate zombies. There are also new powers you can only use for a short time by spending your earned coins. Each plant type reacts differently to plant food, so you'll have to experiment to find the best combinations. Dragging plant food on top of a pea shooter, for example, sends it into machine gun mode for a short time. In this sequel, the developer has added new features that give you a few extra options when the big waves of zombies are on the attack.Ī new Plant Food button lets you supercharge one of your plants to do extra damage when in a pinch. Zombies 2 should be very easy to pick up and play for just about anyone, but it can also get extremely challenging when the zombies start to fill your screen. I'd preffer a version of the game available on more platforms and everything unlockable via in-game progress but with a reasonable prize tag than an incomplete game with the other half being sold to you separately.Plants vs.
Whether you blame Popcap or EA for this doesn't matter, because the game feels incomplete. The game is solid, but these little annoyances hinder it so much. At this rate, more than half the plants in this game will be premium one way or another. The other problem with these is the insane amount of premium plants they keep releasing, and they show no sign of stopping anytime soon. The micro-transactions are not as bad assome people would lead you to believe, but they are a big annoyance in places like Penny's Persuit. Arena is not a bad game mode, but it's kinda pointless after beating adventure mode.
Penny'r persuit is fun, but kinda repetitive after some tries, and because the plant that gets boosted every event is random you may get seed packets for plants you may never even get to play with.
On top of that, the game has top notch music and sound effects, creative designs, good boss fights, smooth animations (for the most part) and some nice minigames in some worlds. The gameplay of the adventure mode is great, every single world has their own plants, zombies and stage which bring a new wave of gameplay variety. Nowadays, from 2020-ish onwards the game just serves as Popcap's way of getting an extra buck every time they release a new plant.

Initially the game was good, then, in a future update when they got rid of the world map the game was solid, afterwards, the game got all worlds and it was good, but since then, it felt like the devs didn't know what to do with it.
